ABSTRACT

Abstract Concepts such as alterity, encounter of knowledge, cognitive polyphasia, the principle of familiarity and the very concept of social representations operated in the complex task of understanding how the encounters between professionals and users supported and / or transformed user embracement practices. However, the experience of my doctoral research led me to question the very concepts used in the Theory of Social Representations. At the end of the essay, after discussing theoretical and methodological aspects, the principle of familiarity and the issue of tension and affects in social representations, I hope to show how the movement caused by the encounter with users and professionals of a Psychosocial Care Network, led me to question essential points of the theory: the domesticating role of representations, the still static way of showing phenomena, the separation between a subject that represents and the object represented and the difficulty in using their conceptual tools to accompany processes makes me rethink my place and role as a researcher.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract The study aimed to describe and analyze everyday aspects of childbirth care in a university hospital in southern Brazil. The expression "taking off the coat" serves as a metaphor to illuminate the process of converting the obstetrician nurse into a researcher in a hospital environment. This is a qualitative research work that made use of the perspective socio-anthropology as a theoretical and methodological framework. The results showed a recurrent lack of information about medical conduct and decisions given to women, disregarding them as subjects of rights, despite what the policy of humanization of childbirth, revealing nuances of childbirth and birth based on the model assistance technocracy. This current care model in teaching hospitals requires important changes through the incorporation of practices with scientific foundations, the inclusion of obstetric nurses and respect for women as the protagonists of this event.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This article discusses the results of research-intervention based on the clinical psychosocial approach conducted among young Brazilian and French rappers between 13 and 27 years of age. Our objective is to analyze the function of rap, as artistic mediation, for the young inhabitants of disadvantaged urban areas. The field research was performed on the basis of participant observation and interviews in both countries. Our analyses show that rap is used by youths to reflect upon the world around them and to react to the negative representations and social imagery with which they are associated, seeking recognition of a positive place in society. Through this artistic expression they become able to accomplish new social and subjective experiences on the social scene. Rap is also a support for the formation of peer groups and social bonds among young inhabitants of different suburbs of the world. In this way, this study seeks to contribute to the discussion surrounding the collective and singular dimension of health practices, thereby constituting a research clinic that does not limit itself to standard technical procedures or to biologically-based scientific knowledge.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo analyze the drop-out rate of participants in antidepressant clinical trials and to explore the related influencing factors. MethodsA retrospective analysis was carried out on the participants of 9 antidepressant clinical trials conducted at the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from 2013 to 2020. A self-compiled questionnaire was used to collect the subjects' demographic data, disease characteristics and the final completion of the trial, thereafter, the participant drop-out rate and related influencing factors were discussed. ResultsA total of 157 cases were enrolled, including 120 cases completed and 37 cases dropped out the trail. The causes of drop-out were poor efficacy in 13 cases (35.14%), presence of adverse reactions in 12 cases (32.43%), withdrawal of informed consent in 8 cases (21.62%) and loss of follow-up in 4 cases (10.81%). Correlation analysis showed that participant drop-out was positively correlated with the level of anxiety (r=0.224, P<0.01) and presence of adverse events (r=0.158, P<0.05), meantime, negatively correlated with the level of education (r=-0.209, P<0.01) and overall efficacy (r=-0.545, P<0.01). Binary Logistic regression analysis showed that education level (β=-0.611, OR=0.543, P<0.05), number of visits (β=-1.831, OR=0.160, P<0.01) and overall efficacy (β=-2.286, OR=0.102, P<0.01) were the influencing factors of participant drop-out. ConclusionLow education level, first visit, poor outcome, high level of anxiety, and adverse events are the factors affecting participant drop-out in antidepressant clinical trials.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This article aims to understand life projects formulated by people with experience of severe psychological distress and abuse of alcohol and other drugs in the process of deinstitutionalization in mental health. To this end, an ethnographic study was developed with the aim of identifying interactions between deinstitutionalization operators, which can be understood as processes, dynamics or actions that act on the daily lives and social insertion of these subjects. We observed that the weaving of these projects towards the future is presented as a work of care of the self in Foucaultian terms, in which different meanings about health are handled, as conceived by Fassin (2000).

ABSTRACT

Qual a responsabilidade desta pesquisa com a sustentação dessa rede e dessas vidas?

In waves of resilience and devastation, collective projects at the art and health interface were challenged by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Research Group Pacto, University of São Paulo, followed and intervened in these effects, reactivating its history and inventing new strategies. This article will highlight strategies experienced in the context of the research "Sensitive displacements: public inscriptions of the modes of existence of collective projects at the art and health interface in the city of São Paulo". How to host this unexpected event? How could a collective life be invented and sustained under these circumstances? How to think, in this context, the equation between connection, exhibition and reservation? Which is the responsibility of this research with sustaining this network and these lives? Suspending the research was not an option. It was necessary to accompany, to care, to be together. To think how digital tools would favor and what it would interdict. The research was continued in composition with these questions, registered in writings and images, which weaved a cartography of the process. The importance of reporting on this period of experience comes from the recognition of the arts and interaction technologies that emerged from the challenge of following the ethical-political purposes of researching collectively.

ABSTRACT

Specific psychological treatments for depressive disorders delivered on the Internet have shown effectiveness and presented advantages over face-to-face treatments (potentially less expensive, flexible schedules, available in remote areas). This paper aims to describe the characteristics of those who sought help from an online self-guided intervention for depression and to explore hypotheses about predictors of enrollment to the program. Based on a sample of 282 of individuals who filled in screening questionnaires, we verified that the respondents were mainly female, were on average 34.36 years old, were primarily recruited through Facebook, had been previously diagnosed by mental health professionals, presented moderate self-efficacy perception, and had moderately severe symptoms of depression. Respondents who reported comorbid conditions were more likely to attend enrollment interviews, and being in treatment or not did not influence attendance. Such characterization may provide strategies to reach more people and to optimize the design of interventions targeting help-seeking depressed individuals in Brazil.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Physiotherapists have been trained to possess unique superspeciality potential to conduct biomechanical analyses by visual observations and decode the kinetics of various static and dynamic postures. This distinct skill of Physiotherapists enables them to make accurate clinical diagnosis with credible rationale in many occasions without even the support of any specialized equipment. Additionally, apart from the ability to directly examine the patients elaborately in the clinical settings, Physiotherapists are also inherently capable of Non-participant observation to endlessly upgrade their knowledge and interpretation skills by just visually observing various movement patterns in sports, household activities, occupational tasks etc. Gait is one of the commonly seen dynamic postures which can also be analysed to certain extent using Non-participation observation method. The determination to research the alignment of feet in human gait developed after noticing the prevalence of walking with Outward Deviation of Feet (ODF) among various individuals in public spaces. Methodology: Non-participant visual observation of the ODF was carried out in various public spaces like roads, railways stations, streets, fitness clubs etc. Additionally, the walking patterns of people of other countries were also searched in social media like YouTube. Both anterior view and posterior view of the gait of the individuals were observed and possible biomechanical interpretations were made for the development of new theories and research pathways. Results: Large number of children were found consistently aligning their feet straight except few sporadically. Walking with ODF was found frequent among many adolescents, middle age adults and older adults. Conclusion: Taking into account of the increased foot progression angle and narrowed step width, ODF should be viewed as a potential biomechanical problem that would probably be acquired from the adolescence (or even before the adolescence) as one of the earliest asymptomatic biomechanical dysfunctions of unhealthy ageing.

ABSTRACT

Background: Informed consent is an essential pre-requisite for research on human participants. However, many studies have shown that informed consent documents (ICDs) are incomplete and lack many of the essential elements. The objective of the study was to assess the completeness of ICDs submitted to an institutional ethics committee (IEC) against the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) ethical guidelines for biomedical research on human participants. Methods: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study. The ICDs submitted to the IEC during the period from January 2015 to December 2017 were reviewed for completeness, with the help of a checklist which is based ICMR ethical guidelines for biomedical research on human participants 2006.Results: A total of 212 ICDs were reviewed during the study period. More than 50% of the ICDs have clearly explained many of the essential elements like nature and purpose of the study (62.3%), voluntary participation (98.6%), procedures (68.9%), risks (71.2%), benefits (92.9%), alternative treatments (60.7%), maintaining confidentiality (99.1%), no loss of benefits on withdrawal from the study (87.8%) and contact details of principal investigator (99.5%). However, the other essential elements of the ICD are either not mentioned or not clearly explained. Conclusions: This study has shown that although majority of the ICDs submitted for review by the IEC have mentioned many of the essential elements, some of the elements like contact details of Chairman of IEC, future use of sample, compensation for trial related injury and provision of counseling for consent of genetics testing have not been stated.

ABSTRACT

A class to learn ethnographic approach was provided for medical students in the process of clinical clerkship to cultivate perspectives and methods for understanding people with viewpoints and behaviors that are different from theirs. After attending collaborative lectures and exercises by faculty members who specialized in medical anthropology and medical science, medical students conducted participant observation during clinical clerkship, and shared their field notes with other students. In this process, students learned the importance of situating a person's narratives and behaviors within their social and cultural contexts as well as importance of relativizing themselves. This class is considered to be a method for providing tips to medical students on how to interact with a variety of others. This paper also describes the practice of holding remote classes on this topic during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Intestinal and urinary parasitic infections remain an important public health problem in the tropics where poor hygiene and sanitation are a norm rather than an exception. This study was designed to determine the prevalence and distribution of polyparasitic infections and to determine the impact of health education and treatments .Stool and urine samples from 350 participants were analyzed using macroscopic and microscopic direct stool examination of wet and Lugol’siodine preparations and Formal-ether concentration techniques and microscopic examination of simple centrifuged samples of urine. Out of the 350 participants, 101were infected with intestinal parasites with the male and female participants having 29 (66.0%), 41 (71.9%) prevalence of Entamoeba histolytica,9 (20.5%),8(14%) Eschericia coli,2 (4.6), 6(10.5%) Trichomonas hominisand4 (9.1%), 2 (3.5%) Chilomastix mesnillirespectively. Out of the infected 101 participants, 14 of them hadco-infection (polyparasitism). The result of polyparasitism in the Local Government is not significant (p>0.05).The overall infection before health education and treatment was high and least after health education and treatment 0(0%) (p<0.05). The results of this study indicated improper hygiene and sanitation conditions
